Fujifilm Instax Mini 8 Review

|

For starters lets just do a little introduction! An Instax camera is a manual camera (non digital) that uses film. Similar to the brand Polaroid, the Instax develops the film instantly and you get the picture in you hand right away after taking the picture. The Instax Mini develops pictures in the size of a business card while the original Instax uses film twice the size.

I chose pink because well... I just love pink but you can also buy this in yellow, blue, purple, raspberry, white and black.  It has such a lovely texture it just feels like a plastic toy camera really which makes it sturdy and super easy to hold too.

So now I'm just going to list a few pros and cons that i found when using the Instax Mini 8.

Pros
1. Fun Times
Let’s face it, one of the main reasons to own an instant camera like this is that it’s fun.

2. Physical Images
We are living in a digital world, So the cool part about the Fujifilm Instax Mini8 is that you have photos to display or share straight away.

3. Light & Easy to Use
When I picked up the first time I was surprised by how light and easy to handle it is.

Cons

1. Cost of film
It’s pricey to just be snapping pics of everything with it, as it can cost from £1 per print and well that's pretty expensive.

2. The blur
When I first started taking pictures with the Instax Mini8 I found that my photos were blurry. This isn’t a fault of the camera,it takes clear photos no problem, it was because you have to hold still until the processing is done, but i guess if you do hold it still till its done then this is not going to be a con for you.

Okay, here are some tips...

TIP 1: INSERTING THE FILM

Don’t open the panel unless your cartridge is empty!

When you open your film and you take it out of it’s package you’ll see a yellow indicator, that’s how you should apply in into the panel behind your camera, the yellow sticker should lineup. Close the panel back and you’re ready to take your first picture.

Your first picture (every time you change the film) will be a protective film so you don’t have to worry where it’s pointed, because it’s black with nothing on.

Now onto taking the actual picture…

TIP 2: BEFORE TAKING THE PICTURE

Before you take the picture make sure to check that you’re on the exposure mode that the camera’s exposure dial recommends. The camera has a sensor that tells you which mode is better and it’s highly recommended to use that, because the picture will turn out  better.

TIP 3:

The view finder is not exact, because the lens is more to the left and down, so I would recommend to slightly turn the camera to the right and tilt it up.

TIP 4: TAKING THE PICTURE

If you’re taking a selfie all you have to do it line up the lens with your nose and snap the picture.

If you’re going to take a close up picture it may be a little blurry, because the camera has auto focus, but close-ups end up looking a little blurry.

You don’t have to shake the picture, it’ll develop by itself and it takes around a 2-8 minutes to fully develop.

It’s recommended to take the picture or at least let it develop at room temperature, because temperature affects the photo.

But overall i love this camera and would recommend it to you all.

Lemon and thyme pork schnitzel with potato salad

|

  • Okay, so at college we learnt how to make this really simple yet really delicious dish. It doesn't take long and honestly anyone can make it.
  • So give it a go.

  • INGREDIENTS

  • 2 x 180g pork loin steaks
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 75g coarse dried white breadcrumbs (Japanese panko breadcrumbs are ideal)
  • finely grated zest of ½ lemon
  • 15g Parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 1 heaped tbsp chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • 300ml vegetable oil
  • 2 handfuls of watercress, to garnish
  • 1–2 tsp extra virgin olive oil, to drizzle
  • flaked sea salt
  • freshly ground black pepper

METHOD

  1. Place a pork loin steak between 2 sheets of clingfilm and bash it with rolling pin or meat mallet until it is about 1cm thick all over. Remove the clingfilm and cut the flattened steak in half length ways, then prepare the other steak in the same way. Season the steaks on both sides with salt and black pepper.
  2. Beat the egg in a bowl. Sprinkle the flour on to a plate. Mix the breadcrumbs, lemon zest, Parmesan, thyme and a good pinch of salt in a shallow bowl. Take a piece of pork and dredge it in flour, then dip it into the beaten egg, and lastly in the breadcrumb mixture until it is completely coated. Repeat with the other pieces of pork.
  3. Heat the oil in a large frying pan until a breadcrumb sizzles and turns golden-brown when dropped into it. Take care: hot oil can be dangerous so don’t leave the pan unattended. Add 2 of the schnitzels to the pan and fry for 2–3 minutes on each side, or until the pork is cooked through and the coating is crisp and golden brown.
  4. Remove them from the pan and set aside on a warmed plate lined with kitchen paper. Keep them warm while you cook the other 2 schnitzels.
  5. Serve garnished with watercress and drizzled with a little olive oil. Some potato salad on the side is just right with these.

Personal-Planner Planner Review

|

I love stationery, pens, pencils, post-it notes, paper, all kinds...especially diaries. Not that I have anything important to put in them, but I really love getting a nice new diary and attacking it to make it 'mine'. I often get bored of diary's pretty easy as in the end they all look the same and not very 'personal'.

Imagine how happy I was when i found out about Personal-Planner, I read a few reviews about the company and then I went straight to their website and got started designing mine and I loved the whole creation process. It was fairly simple and quick,

This is the first time I've brought a planner/diary and not got bored of it instantly, mainly because I could make this the way I wanted it.

You can get a small, medium, large or A5 planner ranging from £14.95 up to about £21.95 plus £2.95 postage for whichever size you choose. I went for an A5 planner as its not to big and yet not to small and it will fit in my bag easily.

You can customize the planners front and back pages anyway you like, there are choices of 28 plain colours, 30 patterns, 58 themes or you can add your own personal photos. I got mine a light pastel pink. There is also a thick piece of plastic to keep your planner in perfect condition.

Inside your planner on the first page you can choose what it says, whether you want to add you details in case you lose your planner or add your own poem or just leave it blank... after all its yours you get to decide.

There is a piece of elastic that comes with your planner which you can attach to the back to keep your planner closed, if you like.

On the front you can also choose what it says and where the writing is placed. On mine I just got my full name and the years that the planner was designed to.

When the planner stars from... that's right no longer do you have to have January 2016 when you brought your planner in May 2016... You can start it from any month you like.( you can pick from a year in advance)

You can choose the layout inside your planner for the actual pages that will suit you best. Whether you want it lined, partially or not at all, you can change the colour of the lines, add weather, work or workout charts on each page, and you can even choose what colour ruler you want on the inside, it snaps in and out enabling you to take it to any page you want.On the bottom you can choose up to three modules to display or leave blank. Options to choose from include a to-do-list, ruled area, a graph area, notes etc.

Personal dates: You can add your pre-printed dates (such as birthdays or special events) and they can carry over to next year if you wish.(so no more copying down dates each year).

At the back of your book you get sections to choose from a whole lot of options such as colouring pages, plain pages, lined pages,Suduko, maps, address list or sheets of music.

As you can see everything is pretty much customisable and I totally love my planner so much. It even comes with a plastic wallet, to store bits of paper or receipts. There is nothing I don't really like about it.

If you use planners/ diary's then I recommend this so much, go get yourself one.
